Mit Einflüssen aus Jazz\, Electronica\, Ambient Music und dem Minimalismus schuf die Gruppe im Laufe ihrer drei Studioalben ihren eigenen\, einzigartigen\, filmischen Klang – angefangen 2007 mit ihrem Durchbruch mit „Knee-Deep In The North Sea“ über ihr Album aus 2007\, „Isla“ (produziert von John Leckie) zum selbstbetitelten „Portico Quartet“ 2012. Nach einer kurzen Trip-Phase sind sie nun wieder zu viert unterwegs und veröffentlichten im September 2017 viertes Werk „Art In The Age Of Automation“ via Manchesters Gondwana Records. Es ist eine Rückkehr\, die freudigst erwartet wurde\, von einer Band\, die sowohl mit ihrem altbekannten Signature Sound spielt\, als auch neue Soundwege beschreitet. \nAufgenommen in den Fish Factory Studios in London zu Beginn des Jahres und in den Vox Studios in Berlin gemischt\, baut „ Art In The Age Of Automation“ soundtechnisch auf „Portico Quartet“ von 2012 auf und bringt den filmischen Minimalismus mit elektronischen und atmosphärischen Texturen zusammen. Dazu gehören auch Jacks Saxophon und Duncans einzigartige Mischung aus Live- und elektronischen Drums. Die Musik von Portico Quartet ist ein weiterer Schritt nach vorne in der musikalischen Evolution der Band\, wie Jack erklärt. “We’ve really gone into detail with the sounds and production\, building dense layers and textures but retaining a live\, organic feel to it. We wanted to use acoustic instruments but find ways in which they could interact with more modern production techniques and technologies to create something that was identifiably us but sounded fresh and exciting\, futuristic even.” Das Albumcover ist ein Kunstwerk Duncan Bellamys: “The artwork came about when I started to explore the idea of scanning moving images. The resulting image is exactly that – a film playing on a tablet whilst the scan is in action.
