Techno vom Feinsten beim Contact Festival – Im Interview mit Regal

Wie jedes Jahr, wenn der Herbst sich langsam zum Winter wandelt, treffen sich Raver und Techno-Fans beim Contact Festival. Am 30. November sind einige große Namen der Szene im Norden Münchens zu Gast und werden auf vier Bühnen raushauen was geht – mit dabei: Regal. Ihn habe ich im Vorfeld bereits getroffen und mit ihm ein kurzes Interview geführt.

Techno, Techno, Techno

Das Contact Festival wird am 30. November nicht nur im Zenith sondern auch im angeschlossenen Kesselhaus und Kohlenbunker stattfinden. Das Line-Up der sechsten Ausgabe dieses Festivals lässt doch einige Techno-Herzen höher schlagen. Mit dabei sind unter anderem Größen wie Adam Beyer, AKA AKA, Len Faki oder Charlotte de Witte. Außerdem wird es einige Live-Sets, beispielsweise von FJAAK oder Extrawelt, geben. Wer noch dabei sein will, muss schnell sein. Die letzte Ticketrunde läuft und ist vermutlich in den nächsten Tagen noch ausverkauft. Einer der ganz sicher auch da sein wird, ist Regal. Er ist schließlich für die Atlas Stage – eine von ganzen vier Areas – gebucht. Wir haben den in Spanien lebenden Italiener vorab zum Interview gesprochen.

Interview mit Regal

Der italienische Techno-DJ Gabriel Cassina ist kein neues Gesicht im Musik-Business. Seit 2012 mischt er bei den ganz Großen der Szene mit. Mit seinem eigenen Label Involve Records hat er bereits einige bekannte Künstler unter Vertrag gehabt. Bevor er am Samstag auf dem Contact Festival spielt, habe ich kurz mit ihm über die Techno Szene und den Einfluss solch großer Festivals gesprochen.

Hi Gabriel Cassina, or as you are better known – Regal. Can you introduce yourself and your work a little bit?

I’m just a guy who is passionate about electronic (and non-electronic, actually any kind) music who has had the luck of getting into the professional Techno-Scene a few years ago and could make his biggest hobby his profession.

At the end of November you’re playing at Contact Festival in Munich. As an artist and label owner, how special is it to play alongside your friends and partners like Len Faki or FJAAK?

It’s always fun and good to play alongside friends, it’s a kind of a family reunion. I usually travel alone for most of my gigs when I play in Europe, so when I have the chance to party a little bit with my friends besides listening to their amazing set, it’s always a thing I really look forward to.

Ist die Größe entscheidend?

Contact Festival is a huge festival for many thousands of people, between ourselves, what do you like better: Small clubs or big festival shows?

Uff, that’s a tough question. I’ve been playing many small clubs for years, from the moment I got into Techno music, and I still really enjoy it. Especially when there is a nice vibe and it gets sweaty. As I’ve been doing this for years now I enjoy playing at big festivals because it’s a completely different feeling and something (relatively) new for me.

You have already played a couple of times in Munich. Obviously, the Techno scene here is not as big as in other European cities. Do you think Festivals like Contact can help in developing a bigger scene and a better sense for Techno music for the people?

I think that everything that is done with true spirit and in a professional way, and not just following the hype, is helping the Techno scene. It doesn’t matter wether it’s happening in a club or at a bigger venue, it’s just about the vibe that develops throughout the night. But bringing Techno music to bigger stages definitely helps building a bigger community, which gives a push to the whole scene and in the best case asures that great artists come to the city and play in the clubs. Maybe even new clubs get born.

Letzte Fragen…

As final question: what are your next projects and plans for the future? 

I have a few releases on the go and I’m already working on my first album which is a very complex project as it dives into new genres as well… it’s a pretty experimental project. Such ambitious projects are tough to work on, but I’m trying to finish it in the next couple of months so that I can bring it to the people in 2020. Stay tuned!
